Ico Maly is an Associate Professor at the Department of Culture Studies of the Tilburg School of Humanities and Digital Sciences where he teaches Digital Media & Politics, Digital Ethnography, and Social Groups in the digital World. He studied comparative cultural studies and development cooperation at Ghent University and received his PhD from Tilburg University with a study on the Flemish nationalist party N-VA. He is visiting professor at RITS in Brussels.
His research focuses on the new right and especially on how different new actors use digital media, considering new right activism, radical right politicians and parties, and new right intellectuals. In his research he adopts an ethnographic discourse analytical approach and sees his research as informed by passionate rationalism, a tragic humanism and a strong commitment not only to understand but help improve society.
