Jieun Shin is Assistant Professor at the Department of Telecommunication of the College of Journalism and Communications at the University of Florida. Her research projects concern how false rumors and corrections are produced, developed, and disseminated among social media users such as Twitter, Facebook, and other platforms, to uncover 1) the grammar of communication infrastructure (e.g., search engines and social media), 2) social and psychological determinants of media trust, 3) the potential outcomes of misinformation at the individual and aggregate level.
She received a BA with honors in Mass Communication & Journalism from Korea University and then worked as a journalist for the Chosen Daily – Korea’s leading media company –, also collaborating with Booz Allen Hamilton, a management consulting firm, to investigate and analyze corporate strategies for imminent changes in the media industry. She later obtained a Masters in Communication Management and a Ph.D in Communication at the Anneberg School for Communication & Journalism at the University of Souther California. She was awarded “2017 Nafziger-White-Salwen Dissertation Award” from the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC).
